Location #7

The bridges over the Santa Ynez river at Buellton. There are 3 generations of bridges here over the Santa Ynez river. The first one was built in 1918. The second bridge, which is now the southern extention of the "Avenue of the Flags", was built in 1948, and the current freeway bridge was finished in 1965. Before 1918 travelers would have to ford across about a mile upstream, or cross the bridge on Alisal Rd. south of Solvang. The owners of the property where the 1918 bridge is on were nice enough to let me go on there to get my photos. You can't drive on it, and it's frankly a little treacherous in places.
