Location #7

One of my personal favorites, this is the old "Sleep Off The Hi-Way Motel", and is located just a block east of the old highway (S. Higuera) at 145 South St., directly across from the Greyhound bus depot. It was built in the 1930's, and was advertised as being quieter than other motels and auto-parks because it wasn't directly on the main highway. It's now called the Village Mobile Home apartments.

Update 6/09/05.... The two units on the north side closest to South St. were torn down in May of 2005.

It was the office of the motel, and today, it's the apartment office.

The SLO County phone book display add for the old motel in 1955. The downtown freeway bypass was not quite completed at this time, judging from the small map insert.
These 5 tiny units are on the south side of the property.
View facing north of some larger units on the west side of the property.
Two larger units on the north side backing to South Street. Update... These units were torn down in May of 2005.
An old rock wall on the south side of South St.
Closer view of the back of the wall.
Another view of the office. An interesting design with all those windows.
Some sort of sign or flagpole footing in front of the office.
