Location #4

About 2 miles west of Refugio State Beach is a clean little section of the old concrete highway with casy access just south of the southbound lanes of the current freeway. It runs parallel to the freeway for about .8 miles, and has some of the best preserved sections of the old concrete in the whole project.

Google Earth view of this location.

View looking west from near the freeway access.

Same location as above looking east.

A little further west. The concrete slab here is a full 20 ft. wide, but does not have the widening strips like a lot of the other locations in this section.
Very clean jointing here.
View looking east from further west.
View looking west. It gets pretty overgrown in here.
A small bridge over one of the canyon creeks. Very typical of bridges built at this time.
Closer look at one of the posts.
The west end of the location.
View facing east from the west end.
A closer view. Look. In this small spot, there a clearly widening strips added. Very odd.
